We hope to build a larger network through the allies we have in the alt. energy movement.

I’m hoping  to at least sit in this ride:

Roopod - 2 cylinder diesel

I know it doesn’t have the skins on, but I love a cutaway view anyway.

TheRoopod

Roo Trimble, the designer and fabricator says:

About a year ago (2007) I began to dream about building a car that would embody, what I believe are the most basic common sense features of light weight and economy, and so, my ROOPOD project was born!

RooPod Artist's Concept

…when I came across the sticker inside the door of my VW New Beetle…it said…3,704 gvrw…that’s how much it’s supposed to weigh fully loaded…3 passengers, the driver and fuel/cargo etc…Then I thought, yikes! For a small car, when I drive this car myself…I can take about 600lb off that weight and get about 3100lb actual weight …I am dragging around just under 3000lb of car just to carry my 250lb body around…I am not so hot at math, but if you divide  say 2800 by 250 you get a ratio of 11.2:1 and then I realized, out of my 1 gallon of gas I buy for this car, I use 11 parts to carry the car around, to the one part that is used to carry my weight.  If I add a passenger, I do a little better, even another big guy like me…lets say 500lb and that brings the weight up to 3050lb so that ratio is 6.1:1 a lot better but still six parts of my gallon of gas goes to move the car around…!  I won’t even talk about more passengers as it is incredibly rare to carry more than one…

RooPod LF qtr, wheels from Mini

I thought: I can do better than that! I think I can build something that will get me around, in relative safety and comfort and improve that ratio a whole hell of a lot!  Then the head scratching began.  My eventual goal…A ratio of 1:1 with two people in my vehicle…my numbers would go like this…very simple…250X2 (two of me) (500) that gave me how much my car would get to weigh 500lb.

Truth in the Catskills

Rebel Moon
Sander's Rebel Moon

Of the 4 awesome events scheduled for this weekend, we got the most demand for the Catskills Truth Gathering, so we’re taking the Alt-Wagon to this. If we get more sign-ups, we’ll up-size to the Alt-Van then. Don’t make us go all the way up to the Alt-Bus! We will if we have to, though. Also, one of the other events is coming together with a secondary tour!

We met Sander Hicks at previous 9/11 Truth events and he’s a real live wire! At this event, he’s going to introduce the Truth Party, play in the band and serve some Truth Home-Brew! Here’s the scoop from the site for the event:

Save the Country. Change the World.

A conference, a gathering, a be-in, & teach-in. A communal vacation from stress and the economy, a big open mike.

We are visualizing a new direction to peace and truth for the USA.

This is how we can take the country back, and unite a huge amount of people, around the simple virtues of peace, truth, transparency, and really good homebrew.

Join the top leaders in Peace and Truth activism. Come to the Truth Gathering.

Confirmed speakers list and info here.

In honor of the Truth Gathering, band Rebel Moon are doing a free mp4 release of their new single. The Waltz for Rachel Corrie, backed up with a snappy B-side, No Conspiracy Theory.

AltOrgs tour features include:

  • Transportation starting in Milford, New Hampshire
  • Pickup in NYC (Wakefield/241 St, Bronx – end of #2 train line)

Aren’t they all a bunch of commies?

Them damn commies!
Marx-Lenin-Mao

I told a new mover to New Hampshire and a new friend that I was considering taking the Alt Orgs tour to the 5th Annual Providence, Rhode Island Anarchist Book Fair next weekend. He returned by saying “Aren’t they all a bunch of communist types?” and that instantly  grated on me, so I shot back, “Well, you’d just have to go to find out, wouldn’t you?” I felt badly that I’d responded so sharply, so in an email a day later, I apologized and tried t explain my thoughts better. I’m trying to be a kinder and gentler kind of freedom promoter, generally, so after a day to let my thoughts sink in, here’s what I said.

First, an apology. I jumped on you when I thought you were committing Libertarian Sin #1: collectivist prejudice re other people. I’ve got to stop reacting so quickly and be more welcoming to people. I don’t think I handled that right.

You said something like “Aren’t they all communist anarchists?”, or something like that. I will say that type of question really rankles me, though, especially coming from libertarians. What is true is that I have no idea who will be at the Providence Anarchist Book Fair, and it is true that I have no idea what those people that I don’t know believe. For some reason I was in a mood or state of mind to snap back with a quick: “Well, you’d have to go there to find out, wouldn’t you?”, which I think was rather tart of me. So, please don’t think I’m being harsh. It’s just one of my peeves and I’ve got to tame my responses a little so as not to offend, probably.

So, to de-tangle all that, I’ll tell you what I do believe re other kinds of conferences, fairs, meeting, etc.:

  • I don’t know where most people there stand;
  • I’m curious where the heads of the attenders are;
  • I want to find out what their passions are in relation to the state, war, justice, economics, etc.;
  • I want to find out what’s the key thing that gets in their craw about the state or other injustices;
  • I want to find out if that bug of theirs is similar to mine, to see if we have any common ground;
  • I want to find out if we are using any common vocabulary and concepts;
  • If we are using a different vocabulary or concepts, I want to try to build common vocabulary and concepts that’ll allow us to communicate better;
  • I want to see if I can influence people who come to different conclusions than I do re the state, then (on to) strategies and tactics to build a better society.

In other words, I see myself as more of a missionary entering into the hurly-burly of the world to see if there are any prospective brethren.

I have a bug about what I call the approach of “intellectual perfectionism”, which is what I call Ayn Rand and her followers’ approach (and I speak as one of those followers who have, I hope, grown in wisdom). That approach entails meeting someone, then, if you disagree one iota, arguing with them til you convert them (rare) or really escalate til you’re red in the face and totally alienate them (frequent outcome).

So, I don’t go to meetings to find people in perfect agreement with me (wouldn’t that be nice), I go to see what amount of brotherhood exists already and if there’s enough, then let’s enjoy that — then, see if I’m wise and persuasive enough to help build that amount of brotherhood to a greater level. In any event, we can often become allies on some issues, which I think is a good outcome.

So, that’s one statement of the “Alternatives Communities” strategy. I wonder if you, the reader, can get on board with that. If you can, you’ll like the series of events we’ve attended and the ones we have planned for the future. This past week was so filled with activities, I had no time to blog, so you might see some catch-up posts with details of where we went in mini-stops on the tour and why we went there and what we got out of it.

No room at Jerry Jam :(

muchies
mmm, brownies...

We had a brilliant plan to sell munchies to Jerry Garcia fans! What could go wrong with that plan?

Lack of adequate advance planning, that’s what. Since we only started this tour concept in June and this site in early July and only learned of Jerry Jam at SolarFest, it has been a crash project to throw it all together. Well, other people plan ahead and fill up their available vendor slots early, as Jerry Jam did, alas. It still looks like an awesome event with a good vibe, and you should still go! I bet there’ll be a lot of good people to network with there and I wish I were going anyway. We just won’t be operating the tour bus there or enterprising -  I think we’ll spend the time planning the next stop instead to make it really successful.

We also make a lot of mini-stops to promote the tour idea, so we should see you at one of them – I’ll figure out how to put them on a calendar, but not clutter up the main tour page.

We learned something really important about state licensing of food vendors at fairs, though – will post on the “Mechanics” page.

Burning Porc in the Free Town

Burning PorcTomorrow we’re off to the final days of Burning Porcupine in Grafton, N.H., a week-long networking and camping experience.There will also be a Shire Agorists meeting at 16:00 Saturday  at Hoyt Farm where the activities are. Through all our contacts with others at this event, we’ll be promoting this AltOrgs tour and the Alternatives Communities strategy for working together to build a better world. We’ll also be running a couple of mini-enterprises at the farm, and visiting some neighboring communities and properties who have ongoing projects of interest.To ride up with the tour, go to the event details page to see our route – we can include a stop at your house, too and we have camping gear for you, if you don’t have your own. Contact us if you want to go with.

Sponsorship of the tour & YOU

There are several ways you can help us accomplish our mission of influencing people in various alternatives communities:

Thank you for your beneficence.
Thank you!
  • give us money outright! We’ll appreciate it and thank you profusely!
  • advertise on our web site (we’ll have to figure out how that’d be done).
  • consign merchandise with us at wholesale that we can sell at retail at events.
  • join us on the tour and pay a fee for transpo, lodging, food and allow us to make a profit on that
  • there surely must be other ways for you to transfer hard-eared cash to us, eh?

Seriously, though, there will be expenses for car, van and bus maintenance and what about all the hours spent typing things like this, eh? we gotta pay that guy, too!

If you would like to financially help with our efforts, please write sponsor@AltOrgs.com.
